Masterclass June 10, 2025
Workshop June 11 and 12, 2025

Presented by Deacon Jay Cormier, D. Min.,

This summer, Saint John’s Abbey, the School of Theology, and the Liturgical Press will host two programs for homilists and preachers.

A masterclass designed for deacons and novice preachers will be offered Tuesday, June 10. Each participant will preach a five-minute homily, followed by a group evaluation of the homilist’s skills and suggestions for improving and developing new skills.  This session is limited to 20 participants (spouses and friends of participants are welcome).

A two-day homiletics workshop will be presented Wednesday and Thursday, June 11 and 12. Conferences will focus on the homily as communications, ministry and liturgy (Wednesday afternoon); five strategies for preaching the Sunday homily (Wednesday evening); and challenges in contemporary preaching (Thursday morning).  Deacons, seminarians and religious who preach to their communities, as well as experienced homilists, are welcomed.
