Triduum Retreat
Chatter at Golgotha: Silence, Hopefulness, and Joy through the Triduum

In such a fast paced and rapidly changing world, the few days leading to Easter Sunday can often feel rushed, mundane, and then suddenly it’s Easter! What do the liturgies offer us? Where do we find hope in our lives? Join the monks of Saint John’s Abbey for the most sacred time of the Triduum. This retreat will explore themes of silence, customs and stories of the monastic life, hopefulness, compassion, and the joy which comes at Easter.
The retreat begins at 3:30 PM on Holy Thursday with an opening conference at 4:00 PM followed by Vespers, Supper, and Mass of the Lord’s Supper. Silence will be observed all day on Friday and Saturday morning. A large portion of the weekend will be the invitation to pray with the monastic community and fully participate in the liturgical schedule. Opportunities for silence, reading, and rest will be available. The retreat ends at the Easter Vigil.
Cost: single-occupancy room, $410; double-occupancy room, $710; suite, $815, meals included.

Brother David Allen has been a monk of Saint John’s Abbey for 13 years and was ordained to the transitional diaconate in 2023. For the past few years he has served on the Guesthouse staff as Assistant Guestmaster, Coordinator of Spiritual Life, and as a Faculty Resident in SJU Residential Life.
